In the run up to Peerfest18, we will be unveiling the three key themes underpinning the event.  This week, Wendy Robertson, Deputy CEO of Thurrock Mind, introduces the event’s first theme: Give it a Go.

There is strong evidence that social relationships are important for our wellbeing as connecting with others is essential for us to function well. It can take courage to step out of our comfort zone – to meet new people and learn new skills – but that’s where the magic happens.  With this in mind, our peer team wanted to create opportunities for people to connect, whether through a shared experience, diagnosis or interest; as giving and receiving support and feeling heard are at the heart of peer support.

And so we arrived at our first theme: Give it a Go.  At Peerfest18, we’re going to be collaborating with a diverse range of people with different backgrounds and experiences from across the UK.  Peers will be encouraged to try something new in a friendly and supportive environment.  Join in taster sessions, ranging from dance to blackout poetry, and learn and share in our interactive workshops.  Tickets go on sale on 5th September – so come along and Give it a Go!

If you would like to be involved in the planning of the event, run an activity or be part of the evening entertainment, then please visit the Peerfest18 website here https://www.mind.org.uk/news-campaigns/peerfest/ and register your interest.
